I see our local Police Chief Constable has been awarded a CBE in the Queen's birthday honours list. For what may I ask?

Um, excuse me for pointing this out, but doesn't he receive his salary for "services to policing"? These awards should be for charity work etc, actions above and beyond your working life for which, ordinarily, you would receive no recompense, not for doing the job you are paid to do.
