Disclosure: I work for the company responsible for the Carnoustie Golf Links website.

So, what's all the fuss about?

"Visitors seeking 'local' restaurants and attractions during The Open Golf Championship at Carnoustie were given directions to premises in Edinburgh by a major tourism website."

Oops, well that's not good, how'd it happen?

"The operator of website visitscotland.com last night apologised for the blunder, blamed on a “glitch” with links between pages."

Well these things happen, I'm sure it's not been going on for too long.

"It is feared the problem may have gone unnoticed for more than two months, and local hoteliers and businesses have missed out as a result."

Well if local business have known it's been a problem for two months, why'd they not do anything about it?

"A local hotelier said she approached Patrick O’Shaughnessy, VisitScotland’s area director, on the issue more than two months ago but it seems nothing was done."

Erm, why not?

"She said, When I first pointed the issue out to Patrick he insisted that we must be ‘Googling’ the wrong site"

Well that's because he knows best dear. You should have asked him to check it out for himself.

"when he checked it out himself he saw what we were complaining about and assured me that it would be sorted."

But it wasn't eh? Hmm, sounds like you should have been talking to the people who operate the site.

"Site operator eTourism Ltd said, “We were alerted to a linking error on the website this morning which was fixed immediately.”

See that's better isn't it? So, what did the guy at Visit Scotland say?

"He was unable to explain the links fault and did not recall it being raised with him. He pledged to take steps to investigate."

Ah well, all's well that ends well eh?
