thanks for the demo, its the first ajax example ive seen using the ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM") IN A simple way, no need for AjaxPro now!
You query xml feeds in the demo, could you post an example of how to query a database like this, or would i do the get request to a page.aspx?page=test and return the page in xml format? or would setting up a web service and retrieving the data work better?

Well you can't query the database in exactly the same way, as the XmlHttpRequest object sends a get or post request and they are only responded to by web servers, so the thing receiving the request has to be a web page / web service or something that acts as if it were.

I'd start off easy. Create a web page that returns the result of a select statement from a database. Both Sql Server and MySql support select as XML type statements, so just return that in your page. In my code where I reference an xml file you reference your web page.

Thanks for the relpy, i will play with this weekend. im guessing if i hit an .aspx page > query db and create my own xml to response.write would work aswell?
